Bird Mixed Medium Project
Process 09/25 to present
For the starting point of this project, I wanted to draw, and or paint an interesting bird with vibrant colors. Luckily, I have some pictures of my own from the parrots at the Jungle Gardens in Sarasota. After choosing my reference picture from my photos I took, I decided to work with the bottom layer medium of the bird, being watercolor pencils, and the finishing texture on top being ink pens. I wanted to continue using the watercolor because I feel that it covers the entire surface of the bird, not leaving any white marks like the ink pens alone would do. This helped bring out more vibrant colors and really made the bird pop. I am still working on the bird's final touches of texture with the ink pens, and haven't decided which medium I should use to complete the parrot's eye.Judgment
I really enjoy how the colors and texture have turned out, although the overlapping of my ink pens have left some smudges and small blemishes on the bird's body. Other than this, I am enjoying my revisit into the subject of birds, and am happy the way these two mediums have really coincided and accented one another.reference photos

Food Study- Branstorming Ideas for Largescale Food Project
Large Scale Food Project Ideas 10/01- 10/03
For this food study, I decided to continue with my favorite medium of watercolor pencils and brainstorm food ideas in order to move towards an established standpoint for moving forward with my large scale food project. I am confused on what exactly I want to capture with this project, either being a mixture of fruit, or possibly a decorated plate of a meal, or specific type of cuisine. I am definitely comfortable with watercolor, so I may decide to incorporate other mediums, or a whole new medium in itself.Rose Project
Process
For this project, I decided to make a loose arrangement of roses. I then to work in the medium of watercolor pencils. I began this process by using the light watercolor pencils to make the outlines of my roses, and their long, curving stems. I then went more in depth with the colors, and began the process of adding values and light source to the flowers, leaves, and stems. The main struggle I found with this was layering on the colors to a point where they just smudged. I also had a struggle with the decision of adding water to the watercolor pencils. I am happy that I decided to leave the background white because it really helps capture my interest with the flowers in the foreground.Judgment
I really enjoy the values I achieved, but also entertain the idea of what it would look like more as a watercolor painting, which was my first plan to begin with. On the other hand, I am still afraid of adding the water and losing all of the detailed shading and values I obtained throughout the flowers and stems. Over-all, I enjoy the choice of shades and color for all components of this piece, and would like to return to this style and idea, with more medium and style experimentation.Reference Photos
